This week, the series Hackers around the world presents a grey hat from Germany that’s famous for hacking into sites such as MySQL.com, CIA.gov. NASA.gov, and some famous university websites such as the ones that belong to Oxford and Harvard.
The hacker, which many may know as D35m0nd142, was kind enough to offer some interesting insight regarding gray hats, the way they’re perceived by society, and the German and international hacking scenes.

Vuze is a BitTorrent client that can be used to download torrent files. It uses the Azureus engine and it's one of the most used applications of its type on the Linux platform.

The hacker specifically told the blog that “its [sic] recommended that those already on iOS 5.0.1 should check their build number and downgrade from build 9A406 to 9A405 while Apple is still signing both builds.”

At Least 4.5 Million People Signed Google's Anti-SOPA Petition

The internet banded together yesterday to protest the SOPA and PIPA bills that threaten to severely undermine the web as we know it. Some sites censored parts of their content, had banners or ribbons, some even went down entirely.


Wikipedia managed to get eight million people interested enough in the matter to look up content info for their elected representatives, though it did it at the expense of 162 million people not being able to access the site.

Google ran a simple but effective form of protest, it censored its logo on the homepage and the search results page. It also ran a link to a petition to ask the US Congress to drop the two laws. Reddit, Mozilla, WordPress, Tumblr and countless other sites joined in.

4G-Enabled LG Spectrum Now Available at Verizon

Today, wireless services provider Verizon Wireless has expanded its 4G LTE network in five new markets, and also made available for purchase a new smartphone to connect to it,the Spectrum by LG. 

The new device was made official last week during the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas as one of the six new LTE-capable devices unveiled to the world.

openSUSE and Fedora Protest Against SOPA

Today, January 18th, the openSUSE and Fedora websites are on strike against SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (PROTECT IP Act). 

While the Fedora Project website only displays a text saying "The Fedora Project does not promote internet censorship. Help stop SOPA and PIPA.", the openSUSE website is already redirecting to http://sopastrike.com/strike.

Anti-SOPA Blackout Day: WordPress Joins SOPA Protest and You Can Too

Both WordPress.org and WordPress.com are joining the protest against the abusive SOPA and PIPA bills. They're doing it in different ways, but you are very likely to notice the protests if you use any of the two sites.
But bloggers using either WordPress.com or their own WordPress install can join in as well, by adding a "Stop Censorship" ribbon or a full blackout of their blog. Those hosting their own blog have a full section of plugins dedicated to the SOPA blackout. WordPress.com users have a couple of new entries in their dashboard.

TP-LINK Intros the TL-WR702N, ‘World’s Smallest’ Router

TP-LINK has recently uncovered a new range of networking products at this year’s CES 2012 fair, including the TL-WR702N router which the company touts as being the smallest device of this type released so far.


More compact than a credit card, the TL-WR702N supports speeds up to 150Mbps and was designed so that it gets its power from a microUSB slot that can also be connected to a PC.

Another product released by TP-LINK together with the TL-WR702N is the TL-MR3040 portable 3G battery powered Wireless N router which also supports transfer speeds up to 150Mbps.

The built-in battery pack of the TL-MR3040 is said to deliver up to 4.5hours of autonomy, which should definitely be enough for most users.
