Samsung Releases a Large Collection of SD and microSD Cards

Silicon Power and Transcend have already showcased their respective memory cards and, now, Samsung is taking its turn, unleashing more cards than both of them put together. 

The two memory card series that Samsung has launched are called High Speed Series and the Plus Extreme Speed Series. 


The former includes five SD cards (for DSLR camera and such) and just as many microSD cards (for phones and other small items). 

The capacities, for both types, are of 2 GB, 4 GB (Speed Class 4), 8 GB (Class 6), 16 GB (Class 6) and 32 GB (Class 10).

Ultrabooks started off as the same old type of notebook everyone is familiar with, only much thinner, but their makers are now considering new design elements.

People may or may not remember the IdeaPad Yoga, the Lenovo ultrabook that is not really an ultrabook, not in the strictest sense anyway.

Rather that sticking to the standard design concept, the item added a special hinge design which lets its display open at 360-degrees.


That way, it practically switches between a laptop and tablet form factor at will.

Microsoft Offers Nokia Lumia 800 Entertainment Bundle for $900 (685 EUR)

Shortly after pulling Nokia Lumia 900 pre-orders from its stores, Microsoft announced the upcoming availability of a special Nokia Lumia 800 Entertainment Bundle.

Attractive at first glance, this bundle won’t come cheap, as Microsoft is offering this one for no less than $899.99 (685 EUR). 


Still, customers who can afford to pay such an amount will get an unlocked Lumia 800, a Purity HD Stereo by Monster, a Luna Bluetooth headset and a Play 360° wireless speaker.

Official word is that the bundle will be exclusively available from Microsoft Stores beginning February 26. 

Apple Forced to Change App Store Guidelines

Apple has released a statement on Contact Data Privacy confirming that the company’s App Store guidelines for developers are to require apps to seek "explicit approval" from the user via additional prompts when accessing the person’s private data.

The move is the result of a shocking discovery made by a Singaporean developer earlier this month. As part of a hackathon, iOS coder Arun Thampi found that a social networking app called Path had uploaded his iPhone’s contacts, complete with names and associated phone numbers, to the cloud.


The discovery spurred investigations into similar apps and, sure enough, even big titles like Twitter and Facebook were found guilty as charged.

Radeon HD 7970 Overclocked to 1.3GHz Using Only Air Cooling

After being overclocked to 1.7GHz using liquid nitrogen at the beginning of this year, AMD’s Radeon HD 7970 graphics card has now reached a just as impressive 1.3GHz core frequency using only air cooling.
This feat was recently achieved by a Chinese enthusiast during a local overclocking contest, which took place earlier this week, reports Hardcore Hardware.


In order to reach this high frequency, the graphics card, which was provided by HIS, was stripped of its regular cooler and paired together with the Deep Cool Dracula VGA heatsink.

Samsung Makes GALAXY Tab 2 (7.0) Official

LG Optimus 3D 2 Photo and Some Specs Leak Ahead of MWC 2012

One of the first 3D Android phones launched on the market, the LG Optimus 3D is one of the last smartphones showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2011 that gets the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade.

One year after Optimus 3D’s launch, LG plans to announce the phone’s sequel, the Optimus 3D 2. Also known as LG Optimus 3D Max or LG CX2, the device is expected to go official at the end of the month, at the MWC 2012, in Barcelona.

The first rumors on the Optimus 3D 2 leaked a few weeks ago, along with some of its specs and two photos that show the slim smartphone’s front and back parts.

VLC 2.0 Final to Launch with a Brand New OS X UI This Week

 

Felix Kühne, one of the many developers maintaining VLC Player for Mac OS X, has confirmed in a blog post that the final version of the application is about to be released.

VLC 2.0 will include a native full-screen mode in OS X Lion, a redesigned subtitle manager, new video output modes, support for multiple video files inside RAR archives, and even support for Blu-ray titles.

The lua-based extensions are supported now, meaning users will be able to grab subtitles from the web automatically (without having to fire up a browser and search for them manually).

Badan Antariksa Amerika Serikat NASA menangkap fenomena aurora hijau di luar angkasa. Seperti dilansir NHK, Ahad (12/2), penampakan luar angkasa tersebut diabadikan dalam sebuah rekaman video dan foto oleh NASA.

Rekaman yang diambil NASA bulan lalu itu menunjukkan aurora yang terlihat seperti awan hijau yang menyala mengelilingi bumi. Adapun foto yang didapat diambil menggunakan kamera digital beresolusi mutakhir, sehingga dapat menciptakan gambar yang seolah-olah bergerak. Alhasil, foto tersebut memiliki kualitas gambar yang lebih tinggi dari kamera video.

Intel 2012 Haswell CPUs Will Feature Improved Multi-Core Support

Intel has recently announced that its next-generation 22nm processors based on the Haswell architecture will support Transactional Synchronization Extensions (TSX), a new instruction set designed to allow cores to work more efficiently together.


These new synchronization extensions (Intel TSX) are useful in shared-memory multithreaded applications that employ lock-based synchronization mechanisms.
