Anonymous Leaks Symantec’s pcAnywhere Source Code

After a lot of controversy and threats the hackers finally leaked the source code for Symantec’s pcAnywhere product, along with the emails we saw earlier today that contained the conversations between the hackers and the law enforcement representative that helped Symantec in the extorsion case.

The 1.4 gigabyte archive file containing all the source code was posted on The Pirate Bay and the conversations were published on Pastebin, matching precisely the ones provided by Symantec to SecurityWeek, but with a few extra details.

OS X Lion 10.7.3 Introduces High-DPI Pointers

Apple is adding more and more high-res graphical elements to the OS X Lion interface hinting at Retina displays for future Macintosh computers.

Apple pundit John Gruber points out to an additional set of high-DPI image resources that act as clear evidence of Apple’s plans for the future of desktop computing. The finding is credited to Marc Edwards of Bjango.

Google's Instant Search Can Disable Itself If Your Computer Is Too Slow

Late last week Google provided a big list of updates, changes and new features in Search implemented in January. Among them is an interesting tweak to Instant Search, which has been around for more than a year now.

The feature works by loading search results as soon as users start typing, to cut down on response time.


This instant feedback is also great when trying to tweak the search term, to find the one that yields the best results.

Total Commander 8.0 Beta 18

The previous beta for Total Commander 8.0 looked like a promising release candidate for the stable version of the program. However, the developer released a new beta, filled with fixes for both the 32-bit version and the 64-bit one.

Total Commander 8.0 beta 18 takes care mostly of minor, but nagging problems. Examples of such issues are a resizable nag screen, changing the sort order in thumbnails view would prevent the cursor from scrolling into view when in first row or showing the "Files modified" warning twice if the file was modified again while the dialog was shown, upon content comparison.

Anonymous Hacks Syrian Ministry of Public Administration

Ever since Bashar al-Assad, the president of Syria, started to retaliate against the citizens’ protest in a violent manner, Anonymous hacktivists from all over the world began showing their involvement.
Their latest target is the site of the Ministry of Public Administration, from which they managed to obtain and leak a large number usernames and passwords.

The hackers also managed to hack a subdomain owned by another government website, HSCR.

Hackers Around the World: Eastern European SEPO

Hackers around the world moves on with SEPO, an Eastern European hacker that considers himself to be a gray hat that turns into a black hat if corrupt companies, governments, or Anonymous targets are involved. He is known for targeting major African and Middle Eastern companies and financial institutions such as the national diamond company of Angola and the Central Bank of Bahrain.


Unfortunately, the hacker couldn’t reveal the name of his home country because he comes from a place where his kind is not tolerated by local authorities. However, our Eastern European hacker, wherever he may come from, has a very interesting story to tell, revealing a lot of details about his life and his hacking operations.

On February 2nd, Canonical unleashed for testing the second and last Alpha version of the upcoming Xubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) operating system. 

Xubuntu 12.04 LTS Alpha 2 is powered by Linux kernel 3.2.2 and is built on top of the Xfce 4.8 desktop environment. It features a new greeter and desktop theme, as well as minor changes to various packages and default settings (including the size of the Terminal font).
