Tablet Android Mulai "Gerogoti" Pasar iPad

 Komputer tablet yang menggunakan sistem operasi Android, pada kuartal 4 tahun 2011 lalu, mulai mengancam keberadaan iPad yang selama ini memimpin pasar tablet dunia.

Menurut penelitian lembaga riset Strategy Analytic, pengiriman tablet secara global pada kuartal 4 tahun 2011 mencapai 26,8 juta unit, tumbuh 2,5 kali lipat dari tahun 2010 yang hanya 10,7 juta unit.

Penjualan konsol game portabel Nintendo 3DS yang terus meningkat, ternyata tidak mampu mendongkrak laba penjualan Nintendo secara keseluruhan. Perusahaan asal Jepang sedang direnung kekecewaan.

Nintendo telah merilis laporan keuangan, Kamis (26/1/2012). Pada periode April sampai Desember 2011, Nintendo mencatat kerugian sebesar 630 juta dollar AS (Rp 5,67 triliun).

PRADA Phone by LG 3.0 Now Available in the UK

PRADA Phone by LG 3.0, the third device to be released as the result of the collaboration between the South Korean mobile phone maker LG and fashion brand Prada, is now available for purchase in the UK. 

The smartphone was launched at the end of last year on the South Korean market. At that time, LG announced that the mobile phone would hit shelves in the UK in January, and that happens today.

In the UK, the smartphone is available via Phones4U. The retailer offers it with the signing of a contract agreement with some of the largest wireless carriers in the country.


Users can opt for monthly contracts on O2, Orange or Vodafone. The handset is available for free on deals starting at £31 ($48/37 Euros) per month.

VLC 2.0.0 RC1 Available for Download

The wait for VLC media player 2.0 is almost over, as the development team readied the first release candidate for this version.

Modifications available in this build are plenty, touching on packagers, core, access, codecs, demuxers, interfaces, video output, audio output and filters, video filters and stream output. Some modules have been removed, such as the noise filter or the SDL audio output, which has been replaced by native outputs.

Xbox Live Clans Hacked, Used Data Leaked

An Xbox Live community with around 35,000 members calledXbox Live Clans suffered a data breach, hackers managing to obtain and leak usernames, represented by email addresses, and password hashes.
The hacker alsa7r posted all the information on Pastebin, potentially exposing all the forum’s members.

At the time of writing, there are no official announcements on the site to alert users on the data breach.

Sony Xperia S Selling with Fast Charging and Anti-Stain Shell

One of the first Xperia phones to wear Sony’s own branding, the Xperia S is a real masterpiece when it comes to design. At least that’s how good the press shots look like.

Rumor has it that the Xperia S is about to hit shelves within the next few days, but Sony has yet to officially confirm the exact release of the smartphone.

All in all, it appears that the company is trying to increase the excitement around its newXperia S and ion devices by revealing tidbits of information from behind the scene.

In this regard, Sony explained on its officialFacebook account that Xperia S features a special coating that protects it against stains. Dubbed anti-stain shell, this material has been confirmed by one of Sony’s product managers.

Google Improves Sync for Windows Phone

Google’s products are not as spread on Windows Phone as they are on Android, but the Mountain View-based Internet giant appears set to change that. 

Today, the company announced the availability of some improvements for Google Sync, all destined for the owners of devices running under Microsoft’s Windows Phone.

The main enhancement that users will benefit from following the update is support for Multiple Calendars.

Download LibreOffice 3.5.0 Release Candidate 2

The Document Foundation proudly informed us that on January 26th they unleashed the second Release Candidate version of the upcoming LibreOffice 3.5 office suite. 

As usual, this release of LibreOffice fixes lots of bugfixes and all users are encouraged to test it. A detailed changelog can be found here.

The development cycle for LibreOffice 3.5 will continue with one more release candidate, which will be made available at end of January or in the first week of February.
